I’m alive!
The last few days weeks months have been a whirlwind. The actors and writers strikes ended :) then I lost my health insurance because of a clerical error :( but I became the Executive Producer of an amazing movie :) then I messed up my back after flying on an airplane :( so yeah, a rollercoaster.
The relief of the strikes ending was something I’ve never felt before. I had just joined my first managerial agency when the WGA went on strike, stopping literally everything overnight, including all my momentum. I spent many late nights writing personal scripts, trying to pass the time while the days passed without emails, calls, or meetings. Then, SAG went on strike, creating a perfect storm to shut down one of the world’s most formidable industries. I was able to perform stand up a lot to make money, but the mental torture of indefinite unemployment never escaped me. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone and the solidarity felt from my fellow union and non-union brothers and sisters was the fuel I needed to never lose hope. Finally, after six combined months of picket lines, the living nightmare ended.
Shortly after, I lost my Medicaid because they “never received” a form I submitted. I couldn’t write a joke that funny if I tried.
Around this time, I was approached to be the Executive Producer of a film called GOOD BAD THINGS. It’s about a guy with Muscular Dystrophy (not me) who falls in love and I don’t want to spoil it but WOW this movie is so good. I’m not just saying that because my name is in the credits. We won two major awards at Slamdance Film Festival in Utah last January, received five nominations at Mammoth Film Festival, and have a bunch more fests coming up in the next few months. Everyone did a stellar job working on this and I’m so honored to be a part of this team. We’re hoping to get it out to the world soon so be on the lookout.
Flying back from Utah, I messed up my back pretty bad and I’m still recovering. Who’s got a massage hook up?
I’m so glad things are finally less chaotic and more certain. I’m still financially recovering from the strikes but just knowing there’s work out there is so comforting. I’m sorry for the recent lack of posts and updates so if you have any questions let me know in the comments!
I’ve missed you :*
Solidarity forever.
