Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with space. My parents gifted me a telescope for Christmas one year that unlocked my ability to explore what’s above us. I would go out in my parents’ backyard and look at the moon, planets, and stars. It’s hard to explain the wonder I felt a child witnessing these marvels, but it left me with a feeling of pure inspiration. I owe this love of space, and most of my morals, to one thing: Star Trek.
My mother grew up watching Star Trek: The Original Series with my Grandfather and passed that on to me. We would watch it every time it was on TV, especially during the annual 4th of July marathon. I loved seeing William Shatner try not to break character as furry Tribbles are dropped on his head, and the crew go back in time to fight 1930’s gangsters in Chicago.
