We now have a stroller, and am newly realizing how inaccessible so many storefronts in Brooklyn are. Is there a way to report so that buildings are pressured to build accessible entrances? I was told by one coffee shop employee that they are trying to get their landlord to act, but that itβs slow going
My ex had a laundry list of health problems. At one point he'd had his knee replaced and then broke his ankle on the opposite leg --- before the knee was healed. He ended up in a wheelchair for an extended period of time. I am sad to admit that we don't realize how inaccessible the "accessible" really is until we're trying to navigate it ourselves. My eyes are wide open. Thanks for sharing this.
Excellent piece and very approachable - a requirement for when you are teaching!

This is important and really well put. The importance of making accessibility systemic, not by exception cannot be understated
